Reading to toddlers Can Be fun

My youngest grandsons are toddlers and I love the opportunity to sit them on my lap and share a little book. Of course, they are just getting interested in books, and their attention spans are limited. but it is a amazing chance for me to spend a few quiet moments with them, and I love that!
Here is a list of some of the books that I have found to be their favorites – which makes them my favorites, too!
– Where’s Baby’s stomach button by Karen Katz – This charming lift-the-flap book highlights a baby on each page. look for a lot more Karen Katz lift-the-flap books such as Toes, Ears, & Nose!, Where Is Baby’s birthday Cake?, Peek-a-Baby, and What Does baby Say?
– Where Is Maisy? by Lucy Cousins – another lift-the-flap books with fun repetitive text (”Oops – not here!”) that gets my little people giggling every time. other terrific lift-the-flap books by this author include Where Are Maisy’s Friends?, Where is Maisy’s Panda?, Where Does Maisy Live? and Where is Maisy Going?
– Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell – another lift-the-flap book (can you see a pattern here?) that shows animals sent to a little child from the zoo. Of course the animals are not good pets, until the last one arrives!
– Peek-a Who? by Nina Laden – colorful pictures and simple, rhyming text are appealing. The mirror at the end is always the page my grandsons turn to first!
– brown Bear, brown Bear by Eric Carle – A fun way to introduce colors. The repetitive text is catchy and makes reading this book easy and fun.

– The very hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle – A cute story about a caterpillar that a toddler might not understand. but the pictures are beautiful and the holes in the pages are engaging for my little guys. This is a book that your toddler can grow with.
– From Head to Toe by Eric Carle – Naturally, the pictures are engaging and my toddlers love to imitate the actions of the animals.
– I love You through and through by Bernadette Rosetti-Shustak – This beautifully illustrated book has a heartwarming message.
– family pets (Baby Touch and Feel) by DK publishing – cute pictures and the soft “fur” make this an interactive book.
– good Morning, good night (Touch and Feel) by Melanie Mitchell – A sweet rhyming story that helps children learn day from night. My grandsons always love a book they can touch, too!
– Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton – animals and animal sounds are highlighted in this book where the mistakes are funny!
– Blue Hat, green Hat by Sandra Boynton – The repeated word “oops!” always delights my grandsons and the last picture brings the joke home!
– Where’s Spot? by Eric hill – My toddler loves to look for spot under the flaps.
– That’s Not My Puppy by Fiona Watt and Rachel Wells – children get to feel different puppies as the author tries to find the puppy that is hers.Other books in this series include That’s Not My Monkey, That’s Not My Train, That’s Not My Dinosaur, That’s Not My Dragon and That’s Not My Bunny.

– farm Peekaboo by DK Publising – This is one in a series of terrific touch-and-feel and lift-the-flap books that are very engaging for toddlers. try some of the other titles as well, including Eyes, Nose, Toes, Bedtime Peekaboo, Playtime Peekaboo and Bathtime Peekaboo.
– ten little Fingers by Annie Kubler – The colorful illustrations and rhymes make this a fun book to read. and my grandson loves to simulate the actions, too. other Annie Kubler books that are also fun include Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and This little Piggy.
